 System is probably the term most widely used today in political science and international relations literature describes

(1) a theoretical framework for the coding of data about political phenomena ;

(2) an integrated set of relationships based on a hypothetical set of political variables for example,

      an international system involving world government ;

(3) a set of relationships among political variables in an international system alleged to have existed -      

     for example, the international system of the 1950s ;

(4) any set of variables in interaction.
